It is my honor and great privilege to serve as President of the Magic City Bar
Association (MCBA) this year. We are celebrating our 32nd year since the organization was founded in 1984. I look forward to working with you and the leadership of the MCBA to have a great year. Our emphasis this year will be on building our membership base, providing opportunities for professional growth and interaction, providing community resource programs and our annual Scholarship Banquet. Our banquet allows the Association to assist law students with financial resources to complete law school.
If you are not a member of the MCBA, we are reaching out to you to join. Dues are very reasonable at $60.00 per year, and if you take advantage of the CLE programs and participate in the other activities, you will be rewarded far in the excess of the dues paid. To our returning members, you are the backbone of the Association and we look forward to you continuing your membership. The Association is only as strong as its membership and I ask you to join with your officers and push to increase membership this year.
We have planned a strong program, beginning with a CLE on February 12th. Judges Eugene and Annetta Verin have planned a seminar entitled “Professional Interaction with Courts”. Additional information is provided in the packet of materials accompanying this letter. This program will provide each participant with CLE hours and it is just the beginning of your return on your membership. On March 10, Attorney Gaile Gratton will host a Membership Reception at the Sirotti and Permutt law firm. Other social and CLE activities will be announced throughout the year.
We are also reaching out to attorneys beyond Jefferson County and we welcome your participation. Although MCBA’s membership is open to all regardless of ethnicity or gender, it has come to my attention the minority bar has grown to more than 500 members within the participatory area. We should all be proud of this accomplishment. I often tell the story when I returned to Alabama to practice law, the minority bar numbers were so small, it was not a challenge to know everyone. Today, that is a welcomed change.
Please join with the Association to make 2016 a great year. With every good wish, I am
Very truly yours,
Ralph D. Cook
