2008 Scholarship Recipients

On Thursday, October 23, 2008, the Magic City Bar Association held its Scholarship Benefit and Annual Fundraiser at Rosewood Hall in Homewood, Alabama.  Rodney G. Moore, Esq., president of the National Bar Association, was the keynote speaker for the well attended event. The MCBA's Judicial Council held a private cocktail reception for judges and sponsors that preceded the evening's Benefit.  Revenue from sponsorships of the annual event, are used to provide scholarship assistance to minority law students at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, the University of Alabama School of Law, Birmingham School of Law and Miles Law School.

Students at each of the four area law schools competed to win this year's scholarships, which were awarded based on scholastic achievement and  writing ability as demonstrated by each applicant's essay submission.  One student from each school is awarded a $2500 scholarship to continue his or her law school education.  This year's winners were (L to R) Maria Virginia Echenique (AL), Rasheedah Heath (Miles), Summer Austin Davis (Cumberland), and Chris Burrell (BSOL).
