J. Ralph Cook
Justice Ralph D. Cook (ret) is an attorney with the Hare, Wynn Newell, and Newton law firm in Birmingham, Alabama. He began his association with the firm February 1, 2001. From January 2014 until October 2015, he was City Attorney for the City of Birmingham, Alabama. He served in the Alabama Judiciary for 24 years. He was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama on November 1, 1993 and elected to this position November 8, 1994. He served on the Supreme Court of Alabama until January 15, 2001. He was a Jefferson County Circuit Judge for 12 years and a Jefferson County District Judge for 5 years. He also served as Dean and Law Professor at Miles Law School in Birmingham for 24 years. He has served on many boards and is a former president of the Alabama Association for Justice. He is a graduate of Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee and Howard University School of Law, Washington, D.C.
Helen Shores Lee
The Honorable Helen Shores Lee was appointed to the Tenth Judicial Court of Alabama By Governor Don Siegelman and assumed the bench in January 2003. Judge Lee became the first African American woman to serve in the Civil Division of the Circuit Court of Jefferson County.Prior to the practice of law, Judge Lee served as Magistrate for the city of Birmingham, Alabama (1986-87). Judge Lee practiced law in the Birmingham community for more than sixteen years with the firm of Shores and Lee until her judicial appointment in January 2003.She is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, California and Juris Doctorate from Sanford University Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.
